Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region, ON

Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region (EAFWR) was established in 1981 by parents of children with developmental disabilities as a way to build friendship and nurture community in Waterloo Region. In the beginning, the “Extend-A-Family” program matched supported families with other volunteer families in Waterloo Region. This model of support continues to be foundational for us and over the years EAFWR has added additional services to continue to meet the needs of individuals and families in our community. Jamie Lee (a staff member) and his wife have been part of this program and opened their home to three full-time home sharers over the last 20 years. There are many programs that benefit from donations such as Short Break Fund, providing families on the waiting list with a much needed break, Support for Young Adults, Community Development Projects and many more. This good deed was nominated by Rob McCauley of our Kitchener branch.
