Good Deed # 137 – Not Just Tourists
150 Good Deeds in 150 Days 2017.
Not Just Tourists, Waterloo, ON
OCTOBER 18, 2017
Not Just Tourists was founded by a St. Catharines doctor and his wife. They discovered the desperate need for medical supplies while on a trip to Cuba in 1990. It has since grown to 10 Canadian chapters, with the Waterloo chapter being the newest. They have helped travelers deliver hundreds of thousands of pounds of medical supplies to almost 50 countries, from Cameroon to Peru. The group, which operates without any funding, fills donated suitcases with some of the thousands and thousands of pounds of surplus medical supplies that hospitals, clinics, and home care services in Canada would otherwise throw out. This good deed was nominated by Jeff Trimm of our Kitchener branch.
